SISIR DEVKOTA (ISIK)
From Monday, 22 November 2021 to Thursday, 2 December 2021
Bio
Isik is an artist based in Nepal. Most of his works are ink on canvas and mixed tools (acrylic, pastel and charcoal) on canvas; abstract surrealism in an alternative perspective would best fit the nature of his art pieces. He is inspired by the intricacies of how philosophical realism is absent from our materialist world and his representations is an endeavor to connect the same.
As an artist, bridging the line between "what is" and "what can be" is a creative responsibility. Art is action, nothingness is spirituality. Artist is the bridging agent. He goes by this philosophy.
Project
My work will comprise of writing in the form of philosophy and a piece of abstract art in the form of ink on canvas. The finished product will be a 2000 word long written text and 50x50cm dimension of abstract art.
This project will be delivered in a fictitious story-telling format of how the natural elements are playing their part to take over the gist of modern life. In essence, the project will highlight the underlying tussle between the natural forces against anthropogenic installments. To ensure far reaching expression, the project will be a culmination of philosophy and abstract art.
Coming from Nepal, I found Olot a very different place and culture adding to my life-experiences as one of the most interesting ones. I loved the hills and quiet spaces in Olot, especially working as an artist, it gave me a lot of things to ponder upon. It was the perfect opportunity to engage in solitude, away from the hustle of my home-town, Kathmandu. Olot has a lot to offer for creative professionals with its rich history and there are friendly people everywhere. There is a sense of enigma in Olot, almost felt to me like a spiritual experience. It is a very beautiful town and I will miss the friendly staff and organizers at Hotel Riu Fluvia. It was amazingly facilitated and I have a lot of stories to share with my friends and family back in Nepal. I am definitely coming back to Olot again. An absolutely amazing experience.
