Bio
Ismael Ramos was born in Mazaricos, Galicia, in 1994. He is the author of three collections of poems: Os fillos da fame (2016), Lumes (2017) and Lixeiro (2021), the second of which was chosen by the digital magazine Vinte as one of the ten most important books of poetry published in Galician so far this century. The Spanish translation of Lumes (Fuegos, 2019) received the 2020 Javier Morote Prize, awarded by CEGAL, a confederation of independent booksellers from across Spain. Ramos’s poems have been included in various anthologies and translated into Catalan, Finnish, French, Hungarian, English, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
Project
During my stay at the residence, I am going to work on my first novel, 'Os desexados'. The book, settled in Galicia in the summer of 2012, is a portrait of my generation, shaped by 2008's economical crisis and the boom of social media. It is conceived as a Bildungsroman focusing on the gap between economic and social progress in contemporary rural Europe. 'Os desexados' will adress issues such as mental health and its treatment in the public health care system, homosexuality in conservative societies and the fight for freedom.
