Juan Carreño (Rancagua, 1986) is a writer and has published the books "Compro fierro" (poetry, 2008), "Bomba Bencina" (poetry, 2012), "Ir a La Trinchera" (chronicles, 2015), "Oxicorte" (poetry, 2016), "Budnik" (novel, 2016), "Paramar" (poetry, 2019) and "Neozona" (chronicles, 2020). He is one of the founders of the Escuela Popular de cine and has made the short films "Santo Tomás, entre la iglesia y los pacos" (2011) and "Hola mi nombre es Óscar Lucero y les tengo una pregunta" (2018). He is currently in charge of the construction of a community library in his neighborhood, in the district of La Pintana, in the metropolitan region of Chile.

Project

During the period of my stay at Faber I intend to continue with the writing of a long term project that consists of rewriting The Bible in the form of extensive poems. It would be ideal to use this opportunity to organize some activities such as talks or workshops with the community (contemporary Chilean poetry, to give an example).

A heart brimming with words

My stay at the Faber residency lasted two weeks (13 to 27 September) and served to consolidate my writing work on the modern and satirical rewriting of the bible.

The hotel facilities are high quality, the attention of the staff is excellent and the work of Pepa and Gavina helped a lot in guiding me both in Olot and the activities that I did in that town and in Girona; activities with a high influx of people and great interaction in terms of the proposed themes.

This was my first interaction in both Europe and Spain, and what better way than through the craft of writing to discover the details and gestures that would nourish my writing project, which is always enriched through the experience of travel.

As for how meaningful it was to share with the other residents, I don't know if I have enough words to describe how enriching this experience was. Sharing with such talented people from so many different parts of the world was very beneficial to me for various reasons: exchanging ideas, creative perspectives, laughter and keeping each other company in the moments of loneliness that are inherent to the craft of writing. Creating bonds and friendships with the residents is one of the riches of this space, for which I am infinitely grateful.

I believe that I fully fulfilled the objectives of my project, and what's more, I even found, in the residency, the necessary strength to undertake new writing experiments that I am sure will come to fruition, and I intend to publish all the work developed during my two weeks' residency.

I leave with my heart full of joy, renewed and ready for more adventures that will push me to write. Thank you, thank you so much for everything.

Long live Faberllull!
