El Salvador

He has published: La habitación al fondo de la casa (Planeta, 2016); Noviembre (Planeta, 2015); El círculo (Visor); El estanque colmado (Visor); Los otros mundos (Alfaguara infantil); La ciudad (Pre-Textos); El premio inesperado (Alfaguara infantil); Breve historia del Alba (Ediciones Rialp). He has won the Ibero-American Prize for published work «Jaime Sabines»; the International Prize «Antonio Machado»; the Adonais Prize; and the National Prize in his country in both poetry and a novel. About two hundred critics and researchers from over one hundred universities (as Oxford, Harvard, Columbia or Princeton) have chosen him as one of the most important Latin American poets in Spanish language born after 1970; such study was published by Visor publishing house in 2015 under the title: El canon abierto. His novel La habitación al fondo de la casa has been translated into several languages and published by Mondadori in Italy, Roman in Holland and Penguin in Germany, among others.

The work is a story set in the first half of the twentieth century in El Salvador, and its fundamental part is a real event occurred in January 1932: the massacre of about thirty thousand peasants, mostly indigenous people, conducted by the Salvadoran army, and ordered by the president of the nation, General Maximiliano Hernandez Martinez. During my stay in Barcelona, I will intend to finish the process of correction of the novel, whose writing is in its final stages.
