Bio

Marc Masdeu (1981) is a Catalan mathematician. He works at the University of Warwick (United Kingdom) since 2014, currently as a Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Fellow. His research is in number theory, and he is primarily interested systematic constructions of algebraic points on algebraic-geometric varieties. These constructions are expected to shed light onto deep conjectures of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer, which are one of the seven Millenium Problems selected by the Clay Mathematics Institute in 2000. He started working with and contributing to SageMath around 2009.

Project

During my stay at Faber I plan to work mainly on the Python interface to Polymake. Having this interface will allow Python users (and in particular SageMath users) to access all the different algorithms already implemented in Polymake. Among the many applications that these algorithms have to different branches of Mathematics, I am interested in their use in computational number theory, where they are used to experiment with the cohomology of arithmetic groups, an extremely active research area.
