From Tuesday, 20 February 2018 to Friday, 2 March 2018

MARC MASDEU
Ramón y Cajal scholar
Catalonia

Bio

Marc Masdeu (1981) is a Catalan mathematician. After spending three years at Columbia University (New York) and three more at the University of Warwick (United Kingdom), he has returned to Catalunya in 2017, to work at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona as a Ramón y Cajal scholar. His research is in number theory, and he is primarily interested systematic constructions of algebraic points on algebraic-geometric varieties. These constructions are expected to shed light onto deep conjectures of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer, which are one of the seven Millenium Problems selected by the Clay Mathematics Institute in 2000. He started working with and contributing to SageMath around 2009.

Project

During my stay at Faber I plan to work mainly with Xavier Guitart, on the implementation in SageMath of an algorithm to compute certain new quantities that will allow for new experimentation in number theory. I also plan to contribute to the infrastructure of user-contributed packages for SageMath.
