Bio

Aurel Sage is a mathematician and computer scientist, mostly working on number theory and geometry, and their computational. He contributes to the development of computer algebra software such as pari/gp, SageMath and Magma. He studied in the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris from 2007 to 2011, and then worked on a PhD thesis in Pure Mathematics, “Explicit methods for arithmetic groups”, in the Université de Bordeaux from 2011 to 2014, and worked as a Research Fellow in the University of Warwick (United Kingdom) from 2014 to 2017. Since September 2017 he has been an INRIA Researcher in Bordeaux.

Project

I will work on algorithms to compute “arithmetic manifolds”: beautiful geometric structures whose symmetries contain deep information about prime numbers. They are constructed from arithmetic lattices in Lie groups, which means that they can be used to tile the plane, the space, and higher-dimensional spaces, in a way that is curved according to the corresponding “Lie group”. This work will be included in the pari/gp and SageMath software.
