Individual residencies / Olot

From Monday, 20 May 2019 to Wednesday, 29 May 2019

Caoilinn Hughes is an Irish writer whose poetry collection Gathering Evidence won the Irish Times Shine/Strong Award and the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award, and was shortlisted for four other prizes. Orchid & the Wasp, her debut novel, was shortlisted for the 2018 Butler Literary Award, and she won both first and third prizes in The Moth Short Story Prize 2018. She is a fellow of the James Merrill House, the Bogliasco Foundation, the Siena Art Institute, Faber, and La Napoule Art Foundation, and was awarded a Tin House Writers Workshop Scholarship, a Literature Bursary Award from the Arts Council of Ireland, and The Ireland Funds Monaco Award. Her work has appeared in Tin House, Granta, POETRY, Best British Poetry, The Irish Times, BBC Radio 3 and elsewhere. She has a PhD from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and she recently held a three-year Visiting Writer position at Maastricht University in The Netherlands.

As a Faber resident, I will work on edits to my second novel, as it is prepared for publication. The quiet, rural, unique, creative environment at Olot will allow me to focus on this project and to bring it to completion in a timely way, as the novel should appear in 2020.
