ANDREA MIRANDA
Journalist
San Salvador

Bio

Miranda Rivas studied Journalism in the University of Navarre (Pamplona, Spain). At 22 years old, she is the founder of Luz en vos, a blog to help people with eating disorders who cannot afford treatment. She is also engaged in freelance projects such as “Del otro lado del gatillo”.

Sociology, literature and education are Miranda Rivas’ main passions. Through them, she believes free journalism is possible and can truly change the dramatic situation of most Central American countries. She specifically wants to work on how violence and illiteracy affect the Salvadoran and Guatemalan societies.

Project

“Del otro lado del gatillo” is a narrative journalism project about the Salvadoran Civil War (1979-1992) that will hopefully become a book of stories from two main points of view; the army’s and the guerrilla’s. Its purpose is to share human experiences about the war to understand how and why a country of only 21.000 km2 went into such a sanguinary conflict.
