Project

At the Faber Residency, I will be working on an article -which I am developing altogether with Keina Espiñeira (Postdoc, UDC)- about the “new municipalism” in Madrid and Barcelona and their local immigration policies. In this proposal, I want to analyse to what extent the new municipalism in Madrid and Barcelona serves to protect and expand the rights of migrants who are in an irregular administrative situation and, specifically, how far local governance can subvert internal control over this group. Our research question is whether it is possible from municipal administration to oppose state bordering practices, and what the limits are.
