OSCAR S. ARANDA
From Tuesday, 13 October 2020 to Friday, 23 October 2020
Bio
Oscar Aranda is a biologist and conservationist. His relentless efforts protecting the sea turtles in Mexico earned him the title “CNN Hero” in 2010 for his innovative efforts to preserve and protect the environment. His project was widely recognized both locally and internationally, serving as a basis for a stronger sea turtle awareness. Unfortunately, Oscar received death threats after denouncing the mafia and the corruption behind the sea turtle egg poaching, forcing him to move to Spain, where he combines his work as a gardener and writes about science and environmental awareness. In 2019, he published his first book The Secret Language of Nature. Each chapter is an anecdotal story that takes the reader on an adventure of fun and discovery of various wonderful animals and plants that are often treated unfairly. Oscar is a specialist in marine biology and has earned three diplomas in sustainability and conservation of ecosystems.
Project
During my stay at Faber I will be working on a book about my life experiences among sea turtles and how they have changed my life. I will narrate an autobiographical story with anecdotes about lessons learned from these wonderful creatures, their admirable way of facing danger and threats on a daily basis, as well as my personal experiences of danger and emotional intensity that I endured in order to protect them. This project hopes to raise awareness about the complex problems they’re facing around the world.
