Reading talk with Ada Castells in Argelaguer
Ada Castells with Núria Roig, organiser of the summer festival, and writers Carles Batlle and Àlex Matas.
With the title “Retorn a la terra. Invasió o equilibri” (Return to the land. Invasion or balance), novelist Ada Castells kicked off the summer series of cultural activities in Argelaguer (La Garrotxa) on 9 July. The writer read a chapter from her new novel, which has yet to be published, in which she tells the story of a family from the city that decides to escape to the countryside in response to climate change. Castells had the chance to work on the novel this autumn during a stay at the Faber Residence in Olot. The reading opened “Els divendres a la fresca 2021” (Fresh air Fridays 2021) and was rounded off with a debate on the effects that lockdown has had on literary creation, with the participation of the playwright Carles Batlle and the essayist Àlex Matas, who live in the village. Among other issues, they discussed the difficulty of portraying such a bewildering time as the one we are living through and whether or not this challenge holds an opportunity. The activity ended with a group screening of the film “Captain Fantastic”.
