Bio

Pau Mínguez was awarded a degree with distinction in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from King's College London. After a spell in the finance sector, he returned to academia to pursue an MPhil in Political Thought and Intellectual History at the University of Cambridge, where he is also undertaking his doctorate. His main research interests are political economy, the history of economic thought and the interrelationships between history and identity.

Pau’s master's research focused on the development of theories about economic crises during the 20th century. His doctoral research, by contrast, will investigate the economic history of the Valencian Country during the 19th and 20th centuries and how it shaped the nascent Valencianist movement of the time.

Project

At Faberllull, he will work on his doctoral thesis entitled "El desenvolupament desigual com a obstacle per al nacionalisme valencià, 1859-1931" ("Uneven Development as an Obstacle to Valencian Nationalism, 1859–1931").

The project aims to investigate various social organisations in the Valencian Country, such as trade unions, political parties and Catholic circles, and their relationship with the Valencian language and national identity from 1869 to 1931. The work seeks to better understand the reasons why many of the groups did not identify with the Valencian nationalist movement and what role economic underdevelopment played in this phenomenon.
