Bio
Inés Sarmiento has a degree in gestural theatre from Resad drama school and has trained in contemporary dance. During the 1990s she studied in Madrid, in contact with other creators dedicated to the research of scenic language. She settled in Ibiza in 2006 and founded the company from which she produces her works. She also develops pedagogical projects aimed at children, adolescents and adults, providing dance and theatre tools.
The following are among her professional highlights: Un hilito, EnSueños, La pareja (in)sostenible, El fin de las cosas and Hereva, works that have been performed in venues and festivals in Madrid, the Balearic Islands, the Basque Country and Switzerland. The scenic language of her latest works is characterised by the power of the image and the presence of a wild body nourished by the link between choreographic creation and the landscape.
Project
Aigua i Roca
The project would be the third part in the Identitat trilogy, preceded by El fin de las cosas and Hereva, and consists of the creation of a stage piece that aims to celebrate the encounter between feminine and masculine, as two opposing elements that form a whole. The work is built on the metaphor that understands human beings and landscapes as a single body, associating the mountain with the masculine and the sea with the feminine. The research work will connect Ibiza and Andorra, two seemingly opposite geographical territories. “The stay at Faber Andorra is the opportunity to immerse myself in the history, landscape and traditions of the Principality, exploring the relationship between body and mountain through movement and the creation of visuals,” the artist said.

My residency at Faber Andorra was very fruitful: it allowed me to fully concentrate on the stage project "Aigua i Roca (Water and Rock)", combining the reflection and intellectual development of its content with the exploration of movement and sound together with local artist Lluís Casahuga.
During the residency I was able to establish and develop the conceptual framework of the stage project "Aigua i Roca" with the creation of a memoir and in turn began the movement research and choreographic creation of the project in the studio lent to me during the residency. The greatest success of my time there was the collaboration with Andorran sound artist Lluís Casahuga – an artist I already knew before going to Andorra and who I admire for his work. This residency at Faber Andorra allowed us to collaborate in person from project start, investigating movement and sound together. As a result of this collaborative exploration, we created an open demonstration of the creative process in the annexe to Casa Rosell. A space full of history and great beauty, it was incredible to be able to dance there.
Putting the show on was extremely helpful as it led us to craft a structure with the research material that allowed us to see ourselves co-creating under the pressure of producing a result, showing Lluís and I our artistic and human capacity to work together. This was just the beginning – the collaboration with Lluís continues and we will keep working on the stage project "Aigua i Roca" with the intention of premiering the work in 2028. I am very grateful to the professionals who manage Faber Andorra for the help and facilities to develop my project under optimal conditions and with so much support.
It proved valuable during my stay to interact with the local community, carrying out the "clothing" workshop with the children of the school in Ordino and experiencing their openness, availability and enthusiasm when proposing a workshop that reflects on the need for other models of production and consumption so that we may live in harmony and care for our planet, using play and dance theatre tools. I also enjoyed meeting Andorran dancer Emma Riba. I am interested in her work and loved seeing her live at the presentation of her work “Foc i lloc (Fire and Place)” during my stay.
In turn, I feel that my physical presence in this landscape nourished my perception of water and rock. Going out to listen to and watch the river flow between the rocks, just as in Ibiza (where I live) where I contemplate the sea crashing against the rocks, was an almost daily ritual. A way of perceiving the harmony of the elements and their dance in nature as a source of inspiration for my artistic endeavours.
