Bio

Born in Moscow in 1999, Andrei Simkin has lived in Spain since 2012. He trained in film studies at ESCAC, specializing in Animation and VFX.

In recent years, his studies and professional work have focused on stop-motion design and animation. While studying at ESCAC, he joined The XR Experience team and explored VR creation with The Sound of Rain, which premiered at SÓNAR +D 2018 and was presented in the VR section of the Sitges Film Festival the same year.

Between 2022 and 2023, he created KAPITAN, his first directed and produced short film, in collaboration with ESCAC Films. In 2024, it began its festival circuit, with selections at the Málaga Film Festival, Animac (Lleida), and Animation Dingle (Dublin).

After recently returning from Portland, Oregon—where he worked as a stop-motion animator at the prestigious Laika studio on the feature film Wildwood—he continues to develop personal projects rooted in fantasy imagery and humor as a tool for self-discovery.

Bandada Rebel is his latest project, aiming to combine his love for stop-motion with animation’s ability to address social issues in a playful and accessible way
