On the cusp of turning 18 and dreaming of becoming an actress, she auditions for a play. But the excitement of early summer is shattered when she has to leave for the countryside to care for her 78-year-old grandmother, Dolo, whose dementia has worsened. There she reconnects with her aunts, uncles and cousins.
