Bio

Ángel Giovanni Hoyos is a director and editor. He is a Colombian-Argentinian filmmaker who trained in film and television directing at the Argentinian Centre for Cinematographic Research. He complemented his training by participating in several workshops led by prominent playwrights and filmmakers such as Mauricio Kartun, Miguel Pérez and Ulises de la Orden. He completed a master's degree in Documentary Creation at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.

In 2021, he premièred his first feature-length documentary, The Road To The Law, at the Warsaw Film Festival. He is currently producing his second documentary feature, Antes del Fuego (Before the Fire), which was selected for the Forum at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival (CPH:DOX).

Project

During his stay at Faberllull, he will write the script for the feature film El Hijo de la violencia (Child of Violence).

Giovanni names his son Ángel Giovanni. Months later, he has another son with a different woman, and also names him Ángel David. Two identical names, three bodies intertwined in the same story. Giovanni was a military intelligence spy in Colombia, was imprisoned for extortion and, after his release, became an evangelical pastor. Today he preaches in towns in northern Colombia, exorcises demons, prays for soldiers and speaks of the homeland with the same conviction with which he once spoke of the armed enemy. His son Angel Giovanni is a filmmaker who creates a story using family archives and the memory of a country he migrated from 15 years ago.
