MARIA FREIRE MONTANÉ
From Monday, 26 May 2025 to Friday, 30 May 2025

Bio
Maria Freire Montané (Granollers) is a multidisciplinary artist trained in art and design at the Massana School. Her work investigates liminal space and the boundaries between the tangible and the invisible, exploring the connection with nature as a path to inner strength. Her practice combines performance art, painting, sculpture and textile techniques such as crochet and embroidery.
She began her career with a Xavier Nogués scholarship for the graphic arts, focusing on painting, and has exhibited at La Cera 13, Espai 88, Galeria Cromo and the Centro Cultural del Carme. She has also participated in educational projects with Barcelona Provincial Council and Betevé, as well as in talks and performances at La Virreina, Galeria Àngels, Pumarejo and Teatre L'Artesà. She has partnered with the Malnescuts collective and appeared in the short film Castells by Blanca Camel. In 2023 she received the Viladrich Painting Prize in Lleida.
Project
Maria Freire Montané is keen to investigate the connection with liminal space and the latent force in the hidden during her residency at Faberllull. She will reflect on the processes of listening to nature, paths that lead us to an inner power often hidden by the hierarchy of what is tangible. She wants to explore how textile languages can channel political intuitions from invisible space, harnessing forms of transmission rooted in memory and gesture. She will develop her work mainly through crochet and embroidery.
