TILDA SCARLETT
From Monday, 26 May 2025 to Friday, 30 May 2025
Bio
Tilda Scarlett (they/them) is a London-based multi-disciplinary artist, having graduated from Chelsea College of Arts with a degree in Fine Art in 2022. Their work is centred around weaving, sewing, and natural dyeing. As a neurodivergent person, they are especially drawn to the repetition and the connection to nature inherent in these processes, and the rhythmic, meditative effects they evoke. This, combined with the connection between textiles and queer history, fuels Tilda’s fascination with learning and sharing crafts. Their recent explorations include patched (a series of broken ceramic objects being ‘mended’ by weaving), and Sun quilt (made from naturally dyed cotton and hand-sewn using the english paper piecing method). Their piece the weaving room was shown as part of the group exhibition It All Starts With a Thread at Whitechapel Gallery, London in 2022.
Project
At Faberllull, Tilda will be continuing to explore the connection between weaving and rhythm, and looks forward to being surrounded by other weavers. They are interested in the idea of collaborative thought around weaving and the ways in which this will inform their practice, which this residency will surely facilitate.
