Bio

Lara Stoop is a screenwriter who graduated from ESCAC (Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalonia) in 2019 with a specialisation in screenwriting.

Her first short film as a screenwriter, Club Silencio, directed by Irene Albanell and starring Eva Llorach, had an extensive festival run, including screenings at the Cannes market, the Karlovy Vary Festival and winning first prize at BFF.

She co-wrote the short documentary Imade with director Ignacio Acconcia, which recently premièred at the D’A Film Festival, and is currently co-writing her first fiction feature film, Cara Sucia, with the same director. This project has been selected for the Rueda Programme of the Film Academy, the Film Academy’s summer campus and the ICEC development grant.

Her first documentary feature as a director, Ruinas, now in development, was selected for the 10th SGAE Documentary Screenwriting Lab. Throughout her career, she has also worked as a script analyst at Filmax, in the research team of the Canadian production company Pimiento TV and as a screenwriting teacher at ESCAC (Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalonia).

Project

At Faberllull, she will be working on the script for the feature film Sota la pell. The film tells the story of Candela, who hasn’t spoken to her mother Jimena for ten years due to episodes of abuse despite their strong bond.

Now, Candela is pregnant. This brings up past fears and a spiral of destructive behaviours, leading her to question her own motherhood.

Driven by a visceral and contradictory need, she decides to return to her childhood home to find her mother.
