Bio

Isa Luengo and Sofia Esteve are screenwriters and directors. Together, they co-directed the short film Perpetua felicidad (2022), which was a candidate for the Goya Awards; and, along with Marina Freixa, Els buits (2024), which recently won the Biznaga for Best Documentary Short Film at the Málaga Festival and the Audience Award at D’A Film Festival. Currently, Isa and Sofia are in pre-production for Los andares, their next fiction short.

Previously, Isa Luengo co-directed the short film The Interior City (2017) with Jorge Moneo and Andrea Ballesteros, which premièred at IDFA. In 2022, she received the Netflix-ESCAC Inclusive Creativity Fund Scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Screenwriting at ESCAC, where she later joined as a lecturer.

Luengo and Esteve have also worked in the casting department for films like Los tortuga by Belén Funes and are the creators of the project @la_calumnia, focusing on LGBTQI+ genealogies in cinema.

Project

Isa Luengo and Sofia Esteve are coming to Faberllull to work together on the script for La forma animal. The film is set in the mid-1950s, during years of dictatorship, persecution of dissent and pest hunting. While her brothers try to hunt down the wolf threatening the local livestock, Valentina begins to experience strange impulses towards the fresh meat and blood of the animals. Lycanthropy, sexuality and spirits returning after death intersect in this exploration of political memory through the lens of the fantastic.
