Bio
Carolina Astudillo is a filmmaker, journalist, researcher and lecturer. She holds a degree in Cinema Studies from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and a master’s degree in Creative Documentary from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Her work focuses on research, documentary creation and writing, centred on women and historical memory. Her projects span experimental cinema and documentary filmmaking. Both her first feature film, The Great Flight (2014), and her second, Ainhoa, yo no soy esa (2018), have won the Biznaga de Plata for Best Documentary at the Málaga Festival, among other awards at national and international festivals. Her third feature film, Canción a una dama en la sombra (2022), received a nod at the FIDOCS Festival.
Her films have been showcased in museums and educational institutions, including Jeu de Paume, Tabakalera, the Museum of History of Catalonia, Paris-Sorbonne University, Université de Franche-Comté, Université de Bourgogne, Aix-Marseille Université, Rovira i Virgili University, University of Salamanca (CEISAL), Pompeu Fabra University, University of the Basque Country (TyF), Tecnocampus, University of Chile, USACH and Diego Portales.
She teaches courses, seminars and master classes at various national and international universities.
Project
At Faberllull, she is writing the script for Artemísia, the story of an Italian geologist who works as a tour guide in northern Chile and returns home to Cortona after her grandmother’s death. A secret revealed in her childhood home alters the course of her journey. Along this new path, she finds comfort and love with Bruna and reunites with her mother after many years.
