Bio

Blanca Valdívia is a feminist urban planner and founding member of the Col·lectiu Punt 6 cooperative. She has a degree in Sociology and PhD in Urban and Architectural Management and Valuation from the UPC Barcelona School of Architecture with her thesis “The caring city. Quality of urban life from a feminist perspective”. Her main lines of work are related to how care, health and eco-feminism play out in town and city planning from a feminist perspective. She is currently a UAB postdoc researcher at QUIT (Centre d’Estudis Sociològics sobre la Vida Quotidiana i el Treball).

Project

This stay is part of Valdívia’s research project on how urban planning and architecture impact residents at housing facilities for the elderly in their daily lives and conditions of care for their emotional network.

Some of the characteristics she is studying include location, surroundings, public transport options available, comfort of the setting, urban elements, etc.

For her analysis, she is using the theoretical framework and criteria from feminist urban planning and the caring city.
