Bio

Isaac Camps is a geologist with a passion for scientific outreach. He has dedicated his career to the editing and creation of educational materials in science, technology, environment, and mathematics (STEM). In addition, he has contributed to teaching, environmental education, geological heritage, and the socialization of geology. His work has been recognized with the Carmina Virgili - Geologist of the Year 2023 award, granted by the College of Geologists of Catalonia.

Over the past five years, he has worked as a freelancer, placing a special emphasis on bringing geology to a non-specialist public. He has carried out this task through various initiatives, such as conducting guided tours, museumizing spaces, editing field guides, or dynamizing the GeoloSketchers meetings. These are open meetings where participants have the opportunity to draw the geological landscape in visually attractive spaces, thus promoting interest in geology through art.

Project

During his stay at Faberllull, he will draft his intervention for the Meeting of the Catalan Society of History of Science and Technology “Earth Sciences: history, science and society”. This will focus on two points. First, he will expose the three driving ideas that I think should structure any project of socialization of geology to capture the interest of the general public: construction of a narrative, identification of people with the geological landscape, and identification of geology with the concepts of nature and well-being. Secondly, he will present the Ruta Lyell project, a proposal that is based on the three previous ideas and proposes the implementation of a thematic route of long distance following the steps of Charles Lyell’s expedition to Catalonia.
