Bio
She graduated from Dicle University, Department of Sociology in 2006, and worked as a classroom teacher in Van and as a researcher in Diyarbakır Göç-der.
Ruken was a coordinator and consultant at Diyarbakır Silvan Municipality Meya Women’s Consultancy Center. After graduating from the Cinema Department of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Aram Tigran Conservatory, she worked as a coordinator of the project “A purple touch to cinema”, run by Bağlar Municipality. During the project 4 short films about violence against women were produced and 30 women were trained for different filmmaking occupations.
She is one of the founders and board member of Rosa Women’s Association, which was opened in Diyarbakır in 2018 to combat violence against women.
Project
I participate in the project "The Purple Meridians", an international meeting with 16 female filmmakers from different countries (Catalonia, Kurdistan, Italy, Greece), to discuss the difficulties faced by professionals with a female identity and non-binary people in the film and audiovisual industry, to break down the borders they have encountered and to make proposals for improvement, creating a network of support and exchange for future collaborations on an axis that crosses that crosses whole of Europe, from its eastern to its western border.
The most beautiful surprise of The Purple Meridians project, which brings together filmmakers from 3 completely different meridians, was meeting face to face with Faberlull. As women who live miles away, we left and met in Olot.
The residency at Faberllull, not only provided us with an extraordinary host, but also created an unforgettable moment in our lives. This place, which is located in a unique nature in Olot, a place in Catalonia, which I, coming from Amed (Diyarbakir), had never known before, allowed us to create projects through brainstorming and also to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
We spent three very beautiful and intense days, in "our" garden, with delicious food and in spaces that made us feel at home, allowing us to meet and produce ideas and debate in each of the areas we were asked to work on. We felt very well there, and we liked the thought of being part - while we looked at the photos of the previous residents on the walls - of such an interesting project, knowing that we had left a mark in the history of this residence as well.
Thanks to Faberllull, which is an alternative to the capitalist and hierarchical order and operates with a feminine spirit.
