MORITZ FIRSCHING
From Friday, 3 March 2017 to Wednesday, 8 March 2017
Bio
Moritz Firsching is a mathematician. He began his studies in Bonn, Germany, and finished with a diploma thesis in algebraic topology. In the meantime he spent some time in Paris and obtained a Masters degree at UMPC. He completed his doctorate degree in Berlin in 2016 and continues to work there as a postdoc at the Institute of Mathematics. With an background in topology, he has shifted his interests towards discrete geometry, polytope theory and applications of non-linear optimization. Always ready to use the computer as a tool to investigate mathematical structures, he has used SageMath for the last years and started to contribute recently.
Project
Together with some of the other residents I plan to contribute to the mathematical software SageMath. Other then the general plan to improve the polymake interface, I would like to make sure that SageMath can handle oriented matroids natively. In public outreach projects we would like to spread the open source mentality.
