Bio

Guanyan (Amelie) Fan, BA, MA, and currently a doctoral student at the School of Information Resource Management, iSchool@Renmin University of China, under the supervision of Professor, Sherry L. Xie. She is interested in digital information management, particularly digital records and digital evidence, and their relationships within information systems in organizations. Her Ph.D. program explores electronic discovery cases in Chinese legal context, and the proactive role of organizational records management in addressing potential electronic discovery challenges. Before pursing her PhD program, she worked on government projects related to records management and legal compliance in the City of Beijing and has been participating in several research projects on digital information management since 2014.

Project

My project aims to explore the relationship between organizational records management and electronic discovery for diverse jurisdictions within their own legal context under local information governance framework.  The conversations will focus on the following topics: 1. Concepts of electronic evidence and electronic discovery (e-discovery) in the legal context; 2. Litigation environment, e.g. rules concerning burden of proof in civil cases, authentication of evidence as a condition precedent to admissibility. 3.Concepts relating to records evidential value such as records reliability, authenticity and trustworthiness. 4. Pervasive Information Systems technologies being used in information governance programs in organizations, and their relationships with e-discovery.
