Tiina Sihto defends her doctoral dissertation in December 2019, and starting from January 2020, is working as a postdoctoral researcher in Centre of Excellence in Research on Ageing and Care (CoE AgeCare, Academy of Finland, 2018-2025). In her PhD, she focused on the local conditions of women’s work-care reconciliation in the city of Jyväskylä. In her postdoctoral research, she will be focusing on the intersection of mental health and elder care services. Her research interests include care, feminist welfare state research, gender (in)equality, intimate relationships, regretting motherhood and sociology of emotions. She has published on emotional geographies of care, local childcare policy, class and mothers return-to-work decisions, female complaint as an expression of gender inequality and regretting motherhood. Moreover, she has taught undergraduate courses on social and public policy and given lectures in social and public policy and gender studies.

In Faber, I will be working on book chapter I’m writing together with Armi Mustosmäki to an edited book Storying Interventions against the Gender Gap from a Global Perspective (ed. Angela Fitzgerald). The working title of the chapter is: The most invisible maternal experience? Analysing regretting motherhood. In our chapter, we are interested on the experiences and emotions of Finnish women who regret motherhood. We are interested particularly on how and why regret is kept hidden, and what happens when the invisible regret is made visible?
