A MASTER'S DEGREE IN ONE WEEK

The stay at Faber Llull has been a highly enriching experience: living a whole week in such a welcoming place sharing experiences with professional colleagues has given me all kinds of incentives both on a human and professional level. The work sessions, but also the conversations during meals, have been very intense and satisfying. The translator's activity is by definition very lonely, and the possibility of exchanging experiences with other people who are dedicated to the same thing and who spend hours and hours facing problems similar to the ones I have to solve on a daily basis has a very positive effect. In our specific case, moreover, there was the incentive to bring together professionals who translate both from German to Catalan and from Catalan to German, and this has made us aware of both the similarities and the differences that exist when facing our task in one direction or the other. I don't think it's too much of an exaggeration to say that over the course of this week we've learned as much as a full Master's degree in translation at any university here or abroad can offer, especially considering that we've covered aspects of poetic and theatrical translation, of classic and contemporary texts, of authors with all kinds of proposals and styles. For all that, I can only be very grateful to have been invited to live this exciting experience in this privileged corner surrounded by nature.
