Professor in University of Barcelona

M. Carme Junyent is a professor of general linguistics at the University of Barcelona. Director of the Endangered Languages Study Group (GELA) and member of the Group of Linguists for Diversity (GLiDi), her field of research is endangered languages, the processes of language shift and revitalization, and the languages of immigration in Catalonia. In the 1990s she was a member of the experts’ committee for the Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights and has since participated in numerous activities to promote knowledge of linguistic diversity and respect for the rights of its speakers. She is currently working on a project that investigates how linguistic diversity is taught in primary and secondary education.

I am currently working on a project that looks at the changes that have taken place in the teaching of linguistic diversity in non-university education. The period analyzed ranges from the 90s to the present due to the demolinguistic change that has taken place in recent years in Catalonia. I want to dedicate my stay to get to know this reality directly in La Garrotxa and to delve into the idea of knowing linguistic diversity as a right of the speakers.
