Talk by Johannes Christopher Gérard on Links Between Illness and Creation
What is the relationship between illness and creation? How does artistic practice affect and condition having good health or not? The interdisciplinary artist Johannes Christopher Gérard gave a talk to students on the English course at the Lifelong Learning Centre. Gérard explained how the practices of many artists try to explore the way an illness can change life from one day to the next.
Gérard's artistic vision is influenced by Eastern philosophical concepts such as Zen, Buddhism and Ma, and is complemented by his lived experiences. Recurring themes in his artistic practice include dialogues between humans and urban and social environments, identity, limits, time and solitude, as well as mental disorders and issues around sexuality and gender. Gérard will be a resident at Faber Andorra until 3 November.
