Genealogy as a lifestyle
I am glad that I had the opportunity to have a conversation with the students of the Interlingua school. We talked about Genealogy as a lifestyle.
I talked about my work, my research (about the national project «The Memory Book of Ukraine» dedicated to the study of the history of the Second World War). I focused on the topic of searching for burial places of soldiers of the Second World War and I spoke about how relatives are still looking for them. The participants of the meeting were very active. Together we found a lot in common in the history of Ukraine, Spain and Germany. We talked about searching for documents in the archives of these countries. Then we will move on to the topic of genealogy.
In our conversation we discussed meaning and modern search methods, problems and difficulties, the role of memory. I told about my investigations of a small Ukrainian village near Kharkiv and showed the genealogical tree of the family I am working on. I was glad to hear the stories of the students' families and was pleasantly surprised when one of them showed a large scroll of his family tree.
So we spoke not only about genealogy and history, but also shared knowledge and the results of our research with each other.
