Lucía Benavides talks to students at the EOI in Olot about her experience as an immigrant

I began my presentation at the Escola Oficial d'Idiomes d'Olot speaking about my personal experience migrating from Argentina to the U.S. as a child, and then from the U.S. to Spain as an adult. I also talked about my work as a journalist covering immigration in both Texas and Spain, and how my personal experience has helped me report on these subjects with an empathetic and understanding eye. There were several students interested in learning more about the differences between the U.S. and Spain when it came to racism and the treatment of migrants. Towards the end of the presentation, I spoke about how, after many years of living in different countries, I’ve become a mix of different cultures and taken what I love the most from each of them. This seemed to interest various students as well, and they asked me questions about what it’s like to be a multicultural person.
