My activity involved presenting an English class to a group of A2 level students at the Interlingua School in Olot. It was a relaxed and conversational affair. In response to the students’ questions, I spoke at length about my home country of New Zealand. The class particularly enjoyed the surrealist game ‘exquisite cadaver’, which we used to invent a short story. Another highlight was our exploration of the quirks of the English language (such as the diabolical lack of rules around correct pronunciation). Our conversations were guided by my exploration of realist and surrealist literature, and included several readings and interactive tasks. We also discussed my early impressions of Barcelona and Catalonia, from 2010, which serve as the background for the novel I am working on at Faberllull.
