Words on Fire and Ice: Nancy Campbell and Martí Sales

Words on Fire and Ice: Nancy Campbell and Martí Sales

While we walked through Olot and climbed the Volcà del Montsacopa, Martí Sales and I travelled the globe in our conversation - from Arctic ice (the subject of the poems in my collection Disko Bay, which Sales translated) to the volcanoes of Peru and Sicily. We spoke of abstract painting and of black holes, of a shared love of dictionaries, of linguistic games, of endangered languages and aphasia.  We spoke of of love and loss, and how our languages are changing, with particular emphasis on pronouns and gender. This experience of compare notes as two poets, and as a poet and her translator, was transformational. Our recorded conversation will be aired as a podcast.
