Workshop “Art therapy and pain experience”

Workshop “Art therapy and pain experience”

On October 23, together with psychologist Yolanda Blanco we made a workshop with children where we tried to talk about emotion, sensations, and pain. The task was to think through what emotion accompanies what kind of pain. After short discussion, we did exercises with modelling clay trying to locate the pain experience into materiality of form, expressing concrete bodily feeling. On October 27, together with Yolanda Blanco we organized a workshop “Art therapy and pain experience”. The idea of the workshop was to think, to express, to analyse pain experience by means of collage. The workshop consisted of introduction, several small warmup exercises with drawings and paper work. After that during two hours participants concentrated on a creation of collage. The questions we discussed: why the visual narrative (‘collage’) is a productive form of therapy in dealing with chronic pain, how visual structures, textures, colours, and lines can be thought as a continuation of our extended lived body. We received a very positive feedback from participants, and many of them wished to continue.
